I lived in a property with 2 roommates for 3 years during my undergrad at IU. We were always greeted by the stale smell of mildew whenever we entered the house. I complained of a water leak in my room numerous times and had problems getting anything done about it for about a month and was even gaslit by her that the carpet was just cold and not wet. A year later, I came home to mold growing in my carpet which became a month long ordeal of arguing back and forth with the Angie regarding the proper way, outlined by the EPA, to handle the situation. She first tried bleaching and scrubbing the carpet. After a quick google search I found that way of mold removal is actually NOT recommended as it can send spores into the air and further the problem. I understand this situation is stressful, but Angie did not handle it professionally. We attempted to seal the room off from the rest of the house to prevent the spores from spreading and when she saw this she laughed in our faces, continuously downplaying the situation. Once again, she gaslit me by saying the fungi growing out of my carpet was not mold. Angie’s maintenance guy (not a mold remedial expert) finally came and tore my carpet up, but of course before I was able to finish moving all my stuff out of the room. So it’s safe to assume mold spores were scattered all over my things. I lived in our living room for about a month and got no discounts besides a few late fees reimbursed which we were not aware we had. My roommates and I got in contact with the health department and IU legal services, but unfortunately since there are few to no laws protecting renters in Indiana, there was nothing we could do. One positive thing I will say, every time we had a routine maintenance problem Angie was quick to send someone over and her maintenance guy is very nice and helpful. All of this to say: I would not recommend this leasing company. The only reason why I stayed so long is because of the price and location.
