The decision to remove access to phone calls has nothing to do with profit margins. There are companies, other than Securus offering jail phone systems.

This decision is based solely on the BCSO’s desire to punish people, cause intentional hardship, prevent access to important information, destroy relationships with children & extended family & friends to control and have power over marginalized people.

The majority of jail visitors are not convicted of a crime. They had an arrest and phone access is exceptionally imperative in order to notify family of their location, find someone willing to pick them up, make calls to multiple Bal Bond Companies & make arrangements with chosen bond company.

This ridiculous, un-thought out, discriminatory, unethical decision makes it impossible for people to make the calls necessary to simply be released.

BCSO, using intentionally vague language, shows that, at their convenience, when they get around to it, if they don’t hate you or accidentally have a moment of compassion, they MIGHT allow detainees to make a call, maybe. In 3 days, for 1 1/2 minutes, to a random number.

Its 2025. We are living in a time of unlimited access to technology at our fingertips, but based solely on accusations of committing a crime, BCSO has made it a requirement to always have a carrier pigeon, on the off chance you end up in BCDC. They’ve gone back in time to before the 1970s, when inmates were only allowed about one telephone call to their loved ones every three months. Now BCDC is living in 1954.

It’s proven that access to keep in daily communication with loved ones is rehabilitative, decreases recidivism, lessens acts of violence, creates a more harmonious environment & provides hope. It is unjust & cruel to cut people off from their families, loved ones, attorneys, bondsmen, friends & public information.

BCSO & BCDC are walking boldly into what will be a surge in violence, fights, attacks on guards, theft of personal property, negative environment & a large # of individuals in a constant state of discontent & unrest. This is a horrible, dangerous, cruel, non empathetic, hate filled decision.

AWESOME PEOPLE!!! As the concerned mother of an adult son who had not checked in while out hiking alone a couple of hours from home, I called Stone County who put me in touch with the Baxter County Sheriff's office. Their phone were not working. However, Lena called me back on her personal cell and asked me what was going on. I explained that my son was supposed to have gone on a short hike to "Bumble Falls (it was actually Bumper Falls)", but his position hadn't changed on google mapshare for the past 5 hours and we had not been able to reach him. Let me be honest, I really thought the chances of anyone actually doing anything was very slim because of his age and it had only been a few hours. Lena jumped on it though. Thank God for Lena! She called me back when we about 30 min away from his last known location in the middle of nowhere. She told me that they had found the truck and they had located my son!!! Two deputies were with him and she had called emergency services just in case they were needed.

According to my son, within about 20 minutes of getting the call, they had found him stuck on a small ledge with a 30 ft drop below. The two deputies were joined by a ranger and two EMTs. They pulled him out with a rope (no easy feat -- he's a big boy), gave him a going over to ensure he was not hurt, and sent him on his way. We actually drove past him LOL but figured it out and met up at Mt View.

Thank you ALL so much! You have no idea how grateful we are for your patience, concern, expediency, and help! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Because of your diligence, you have allowed a worried mother to go to bed tonight in the peace of knowing that she did not lose another child.

20 minutes! In the middle of nowhere. No cell phone reception.
And they found him within 20 minutes! Just amazing! Good people with great teamwork! Thanks again you guys/gals!!!!

They are still refusing to abide by the federal judge ruling to allow regular mail, I've called up there twice today, quoted what sheriff Montgomery has said that they will comply with the law, she says she's aware but that they are not going to comply and that as of now they will only allow postcard, solely because it's easier for them lord forbid they have to check some mail while sitting all day.

I went there for a copy of an accident report. Got an incident report, my insurance company sent me back for the accident report. This didn't seem to be a problem until a deputy stepped in,. I left there with out the accident report. Note; this is the first time I've ever had a problem with or at the sheriff's office.
