I won a storage auction on a past due unit, I emptied it out within 24 of 72 hours alotted and turned in picture proof of it clean. It's been almost a month and I still have not received my cleaning deposit back. I've contacted them and they never called me back like they said after they would look into it.

The office personnel is nice and easy to deal with. The prices unfortunately have gone up and up and up. And the late fees are nothing to mess with.
And I read from another customer that they work with her on late payments, but I always just get charged the late fee and that’s it. It’s a pretty steep late fee too.

I’ve been using hearth fire storage for about 2 years now. They have been easy to work with. They are great people! If you’re late on a payment they work with you! They are one of the cheaper storage companies. They keep your information private!

CubeMart just bought this location from Hearthfire Storage, which was a very easy and great company to work with. I have two units and pay about $155 per month for each.
CubeSmart has not been easy or upfront and is really difficult to Communicate with (their customer care is 98% AI interface w little option apart from purchase or payment selections).
Cube Smart, a large corporation from the East Coast, also does online security consulting (I don't know the connection just that they are active in Chicago as consultants).
They gave us 4 days' notice of the sale, their new fee structure (up to $50 beyond rent per month), and canceled all established automatic payments. There is no customer service for this ... i did discover that you can reach a salesperson by touching 4 in the AI menu under "options".
Four days' notice before a long weekend in Illinois was not helpful. On the 1st, my phone and email were bombarded by multiple notices of my invoice -- but until four days earlier, my accounts had been on autopay for years.
They claim bank info was deleted for security purposes, but all other personal info was retained ... however, they wanted to charge me $24 in fees to confirm my bank info AND I have to download their app -- remember that these guys are also an Internet consulting firm... so they understand forcing us to let them have access to our data. (My Indiana bank feels a bit creepy about them also).

Of the four storage firms I work with... these guys are the most expensive fee-wise and hardest to get ahold of. Just say no.

In LA Porte, check out Kingsbury Mini-Storage (a local firm with local owners) and in Chicago, I recommend Extra Space Storage, which is cheaper and each site has on-site personnel able to address maintenance info and customer service on-site.

I'm not sure who you call from Cube Smart if you need to talk to someone beyond their AI 💁🏽‍♂️ -- and their people are
in Philly -- a long, long ways away.

I had rented the biggest storage unit they had. Got it last year sometime. It was a pull-through. It was okay at first but it leaked water. I was aware and okay with it if I didn’t need to move. I wasn’t storing any boxes so no big deal. A little while after that they decided to do construction to build more units. The construction company made it a living hell to get into the storage facility. Meanwhile every time I’m there my vehicle would get dirty. A couple months ago one of the doors of my storage unit broke. They NEVER sent anyone out. Fast forward a couple weeks and the other door broke when I NEEDED to get in. Finally they sent someone over to fix it. Recently they raised the rates after there’s still ongoing construction and never gave us any sort of discount for the inconvenience. It’s THEIR choice to do construction and neglect their oldest customers/units why do we have to suffer because of it? I just moved out only 10 days into the month and they are not prorating my payment this month. What idiots.
