So disappointed! We have been coming to DI for many years. This year our big family trip has been so disappointing. We rented a beautiful home on East end called Bonnie Blue. The pictures show a lovely boardwalk over the dunes. We arrived to find the pictured boardwalk wasn’t there. I have included a pic of what their website shows vs the slimy water we had to slog through all week while our mom just didn’t get to go to the beach at all because she couldn’t get across. The house had not been thoroughly cleaned. We found one bed had been made up over dirty sheets. We had to sleep on towels thrown over somebody’s personal hair until we could wash the sheets the next day because it was too late to start washing. There was also urine droplets on the commodes. The rental company did refund the cleaning fee for that. The dishwasher also broke on day 1. We hand washed dishes for 12 people until they replaced it on day 4 of our stay. The ice machine and wine chiller didn’t work. The rental company said the owner was aware but had not replaced them yet. The ice maker in both the refrigerators made maybe 1 pound of ice all week. We just had to go buy ice. The washer is a front load and was very moldy and the dryer was about to die. It made a screeching noise the entire time it ran. The house itself was beautiful and the location was perfect with a gorgeous view of the beach. We will return to DI but will use another company from now on. We have stayed in much older houses not as pretty as this one but we’ve never seen one so poorly managed.

My family and I are moving to Alabama and found Dauphin Island to be just what we're looking for. So we stopped in to speak with an agent...we'll call him Drew. The ladies that initially greeted us were fantastic! And Drew seemed to be on point. We had found a couple of homes on our own and shared these with Drew. Long story short he had promised to get us access to their portal so we could search further for other possibilities. We arrived back in our home state, and waited a couple of days for his response. Nothing...no worries people are busy and can forget, so we sent another message to remind him. Again after he replied back with an apology...Crickets! You can do what you will, but we'll be taking our business elsewhere.

We recently used this company to book a trip to Dauphin island and we couldn’t have been more pleased! We chose “5:00 somewhere” and it was perfect for our family. It’s literally right on the beach. We love it so much, we are already planning to book another trip next year! Hopefully we will get to stay in this place again (fingers crossed!)

Would give 10 stars if I could. We rented a just built rental home right on the beach. We loved it and the island. DIRE was friendly and helped us with any questions or needs we had. I liked that the clean up list was not excessive the way most AirBnB hosts are.

We did learn that roaches are just part of life on the island, no matter how new the house you are just gonna see some here and there. Keep your food closed in containers and refrigerated and it helps! And don't freak out, it's just normal.

Loved watching the dolphins swim by every morning, gorgeous sunsets and rises, and playing on the beach. Perfect vacation!!

Edited to add... 4 years later... We continue going to DI and using DIRE and are always impressed. This time we left so many items (big oops on our part!!) and DIRE had an easy to use process and shipped our items back to us. I'm soooo thankful for this. We will always use DIRE!!

We have mixed feelings about Dauphin Island Real Estate for vacation rentals. After several contact submission forms submitted through their website as well as direct emails to their rental email address asking for quotes on a home for a specific period of time, we still have not heard back and it's been several weeks. We had this same issue last year when trying to book a rental for a week so it's not a fluke, it's just bad customer service. We keep going back and forth between Dauphin Island or another location, and this is an easy way for us to not choose Dauphin Island.

Last year we did end up calling them directly to book, which was another ordeal since the price over the phone was different then the price quoted online. However, our stay was great and the home was clean. Check in was a little challenging since we couldn't get the lock box to work initially and there was no communication leading up to our check-in date until I reached out a few days prior inquiring about steps to take for check in, lock box code, etc. Communication, responsiveness, and customer service are critical for a good experience and if you want repeat guest loyalty.

What a great experience at the Purple Pelican! Very spacious, with a perfect setting. Just the right distance from the water, and very private. The furnishings are like being at home with everything we need. Being elevated (in fact there is an elevator!) catches the breeze and sounds of the beach that are sooooo relaxing. We spent a lot of time on the huge deck and grilling under the house in the shade. So much room! The pool table in the living room saw some fierce and lengthy tournament action. This has been a great place to make the best memories .
