I’m on the food is medicine program.
Food can be healthy if it’s fresh and edible.
But often times I walk out with things that upon inspection getting home are already moldy or spoiled.
Today I picked up some mushrooms that were harvested and packed in late April, …. It’s July 8th. Two and a half months old ! Slimy and inedible.
Getting sick on rotten food is no way to stay healthy !
BTW….. You find Neil Robbinson on the list of people, it’s an alias.

The front desk woman was not helpful, and seemed like I was a nuisance. She didn't want to help me in any way with the question I had,and made md feel like I was Stupid for even asking. Mind you,I was lost, and had been giving the incorrect directions and incorrect details of ware I could go for the help I was needing, but that head woman at the front desk must have been having a bad day or something, and seemed to just want me oyt.
Thankfully another woman had overheard my question, and immediately pointed me in the correct direction ( right across the street).I also had been asking aboyt how I not only could get a food box,but also I thought perhaps trying to volunteer there would be a nice thing to do,as I would be needing their help with getting food every now n then..but I never even got to get any answers concerning that issue, before I left. Maybe they already have enough volunteers?
Anyhow, I will unfortunately probably not go there for help again.
Sad ,but true..and very dissapoining..

I'm pretty disappointed with what you get for the every 3rd Saturday box the fresh produce was 1 bag of celery a bag of carrots and a bag of apples in a huge box there was hardly anything in that box. The main food box had nothing to make meals with 1 can of chicken 1 can of pork 1 box of macaroni and cheese 3 bags of random nuts some lentils. Every other food pantry I have ever been to gives you chopped meat, hambuger- helpers, macaroni and cheese, eggs, milk, butter, canned vegetables, beans they advertise it as 30 lbs of food per person it's not even close to that and you can only get it 1x a month. I don't know who buys for the food pantry because it's federally funded but they have no clue what they are doing I have a 8 person family that box lasts not even a week and the emergency boxes are just random stuff again nothing to make meals with and 90% of the time the meat is rotten!!! It's disgusting to think that they expect you to appreciate the rotten food you get and take it as a blessing it's there, yeah to make you sick so you die and one less person to help!

When I first moved to fairbanks, we were frequent fliers at the food bank. I was always extremely thankful for what I received there. I recently had the chance to volunteer at the foodbank and couldn't be happier with my experience. Those are some hard working and caring folks
