loved living here! never had any serious problems. the washer went out ONCE and the maintenance man was there within an hour (after hours) and fixed it! my kids loved the indoor and outdoor play areas. Melissa was wonderful! our only reason for moving was that we bought a house.

I've lived here going on two years. I absolutely love it. Management is super kind and they are very helpful. If there is any problems Melissa is on top of it. And maintenance is kind and waste no time. It's quite peaceful and full of loving people. I've not had an incident with anyone over anything in the two years I've been here. I can't imagine leaving.

Let me first be straightforward and say that I love my apartment at Jasper Lofts. The re-purposed factory building is awesome, management is amiable and friendly, and the additional amenities offered is terrific.

That said, ongoing problems with tenants throughout the building reflect extremely poorly on this community, and are the sole reason this review is not a 5-star rating. One may say that poor behavior by tenants is not the fault of ownership and management, but their delayed or absent reaction to such behavior creates a less than ideal living situation for some, hence this review.

What should be of some concern is that some tenants are very obviously dealing drugs out of the building. Several arrests have occurred over past months involving meth and heroin, and one only needs to follow their nose if they want to find marijuana. It's not uncommon to see a vehicle drive around the block several times veeeeerrrrrryyyyy sloooooooowly, or to see a number of shady-looking individuals attempting to find their way into the building. The three entrances to the building are locked, requiring a key fob to enter, or by using the call box to phone the tenant to be let in. Tenants and guests alike will frequently attempt to subvert this safeguard by piggybacking behind other tenants, or by placing rocks at the feet of doors to prevent them from locking. Again, this is no fault of management, but a more proactive effort to crack down on these occurrences should be taken.

On a brighter note, the apartments are wonderful. True, I am the first person to live in my respective unit, but having new appliances, including washer/dryer, included inside each living space is fantastic. Bathrooms and living areas are spacious, and while the bedrooms are a bit small, they're acceptable when the remaining living quarters are large and open.

Water/sewage is covered in rent, trash disposal is easily accessible outside, and a focus on energy efficiency makes utility bills exceptionally low. My February utility bill was $36; a most welcome amount. Pets are allowed, and there is even a station for dog waste bags in the yard for picking up after pets. Unfortunately, a number of lazy and rude tenants do not pick up after their pets, despite the provided waste bags and easily accessible waste bins near both entrances. Alas, this may be a minor issue, but avoiding a mine field of dog poop can be a major annoyance to the respectful tenant. Again, another opportunity for management to address a troublesome issue.

Lastly, the building offers a convenient gym/workout area, an indoor play area for kids, a business office with computers/printers, a large media room, and a family gathering room that can be reserved for parties. Elevators are located near two of the three entrances, and there are three stairwells in well-placed corners of the building. Hallways are well-lit, and artwork dons the walls to make the place feel a bit more homey. That said, the stale smell of cigarettes permeates the elevators and hallways far too often. Smoking is not permitted in the building, but it's quite clear that many don't adhere to this rule. It's not much better for those that do, however. Cigarette butts and trash litter the ground outside of the building due to lazy tenants failing to dispose of their waste properly, even though outdoor ashtrays and trash cans are near every entrance; again a result of tenants thumbing their nose at the rules of the lease, and management failing to take a harsher approach in addressing it.

As I've said, this is a beautiful building to call home. The issue, however, is an ugly minority of the tenants that needs to be seriously addressed, and hopefully sooner rather than later.

This apartment complex's reputation has already traveled to all of the surrounding counties, and it is not good. I do not live in the Lofts, but, unfortunately, I live near it. Before you move in, you must know there is a lot of drug activity there. Arrests are made almost daily (so far, breaking into cars, meth, heroin, meth, pot, meth, domestics, meth... you get the picture). I do know there is a cleanup process that includes removing anything fabric, a treatment that has to be done to the walls and ceilings, and professional cleaning of duct work that is required after meth has been in a home to ensure safety for the other/next residents (Meth.IN.gov and EPA) - I do not know if this is being done.... but if it were, it seems the building would be shut down a lot (inside entrances would create a risk for every apartment in the building when even one meth lab is found).
The police are there 1-5 times per day, the fire department is called 1-5 times per week (this information is fact, not my opinion). A friend went to look at an apartment and she saw many used needles in the parking lot. Many of the apartments have been trashed by the people living there, and for some reason they allow pets - which does NOT help that situation (imagine people not taking their dogs out). You can hear people screaming and arguing in the streets at all hours of the nights. Several of the kids that live in there can be seen looking in windows of houses and factories, damaging property, etc... not looking forward to seeing what summer break from school brings 🙁
Many security cameras and alarms have been installed around the neighborhood since this building opened just a few months ago (some of the 5-star reviews came before the tenants started moving in?).

The police informed us that all of the other apartment complexes around here have a list of people they will not rent to (so they don't get these kinds of renters), but the Lofts is a nationwide company that does not have these restrictions - so they evict after the resident does something bad enough to warrant it. Evidently, there are no background/reference checks, or this couldn't happen.... this is not the way Jasper, IN should be running an apartment complex with 70 apartments. People in the neighborhood don't feel safe anymore - especially people with children. I refuse to check the sex offender list at this point, for fear of what I might find out.

I feel for the good people who live there that hoped for a nice, new apartment in a non-smoking building. I hope they can ride out their leases unscathed. It doesn't matter how "nice" or "easy to work with" a building manager is if other people in the building can put even one person's safety at risk.

The people I really worry about are the people that don't know, and move into the new senior living building they will be opening soon right across the street from this building. Until the low-income Lofts gets their tenants straightened out, the elderly should not be put in this kind of situation due to safety.

Maybe by the year 2020, this may all be resolved... but unless some processes are changed and the business is held accountable, I would think long and hard before considering this place.

We love our apartment. I love the fact that mgmt is easy to work with.
That being said, we have a real problem with the fact that some days to get in the building you have to walk through cigarette smoke . At times the hallway and elevator smell of smoke. It sometimes smells like they are smoking in those areas.
Both my daughter and myself have asthma . Her's is much worse tham mine. Due to the smoke my daughter is sick.
We moved here because it is supposed to be a no smoking building.
Thank you for your time. Have a good day.

My friends lives there and they take FOREVER to fix things. Once her door wouldn't open and her kids her and her room mated where locked IN the apartment kids missed school they missed work and no one can to fix it for 3 days now her key broke in the door and they can't fix it till morning and she stuck outside. Emergency maintance for what it's an emergency and they just hold of till tomorrow what's the point in emergency maintance. 5 managers in a year no wonder they can't run it right and they never hire anyone better or smarter or hire maintance that's does their job.

Our family would love to live here. It's a really nice place. We just wish that people would reconsider families who have just one eviction. I understand though.
