I moved into Dickens Gardens about a month ago, and since I'm finally unpacked, I figured I should write a review. Bridget, the property manager, has been a dream to work with. She was very helpful, answering all of the questions that I had before moving in. (Note: the website scheduling tool is broken, so don't bother trying to use it. I recommend looking up the apartment you're interested in and calling the number. That's how I got in touch with Bridget, and it was very easy from there to schedule a time to view the apartment.) The apartment itself is great! Lots of space with gated underground parking. Also, you can pay rent and make maintenance requests online, which is very convenient. Speaking of maintenance: when I first moved in there were a couple minor maintenance issues that I wanted to get fixed, and Kevin did an awesome (and quick) job. The complex has a great intercom system where you can make one time use delivery codes for your delivery driver (no more lost or stolen packages! Yay!) And they recently put up wreaths on the front entrance for the holidays, which I thought was such an adorable touch. All in all, I'm very happy to have found this apartment with such a great property manager and maintenance man.

Moving into my first apartment was an unforgettable experience, largely thanks to the property manager, Bridget. She was incredibly welcoming and attentive from the initial tour to the day I received my keys. She took the time to answer all my questions and made sure I felt comfortable with the leasing process. The professionalism and support I received from Bridget is beyond grand. With every interaction I feel valued and respected due to her genuine enthusiasm, dedication, and speedy responses. Bridgets commitment to making this a great place to live has made me realize that I’d love to stay here for as long as possible.

Edit 2024 - I avoided Moss as one should do, but unfortunately they ended up TAKING OVER the building that I ended up living in. It’s been a complete disaster at Astra.

The community is constantly littered with garbage and feces (the human and pet kind) and it’s only getting worse as they cut costs. Security is non-existent and if you’re not harassed by someone on the streets, then count that as a lucky day. Overflowing trash? Not a priority for them. They’ll let it overflow into the hallways.

I’ve given new management 6 months to address the situation, but they are not willing to make things right. 30k people viewed my positive Astra review over the last year. I’d imagine the same amount will review the newly updated one.

Original review September 2023:
Falsely advertises a property in west adams as available. They do not respond to adverts or calls, but they constantly post on social media. If this is the attention they give to a new property, I can’t imagine how they treat tenants of old properties. Avoid!

I recently had an excellent experience with this agency, thanks to the outstanding service provided by Bridget, the property manager. From our first interaction, she was incredibly attentive and knowledgeable, guiding me through the entire rental process with ease. Bridget took the time to understand my needs, promptly answered all my questions, and made sure every detail was handled efficiently. Her professionalism and friendly demeanor made finding my new home a stress-free experience. I highly recommend this agency, especially if you have the pleasure of working with Bridget!

I wanted to take a moment to share my experience at Magnolia Apartments, where Bridget is the property manager, because it was truly exceptional from beginning to end.

When I applied, I had a unique financial situation, and Bridget was understanding and helpful, making the approval process smooth and stress-free. Throughout my time at the property, Bridget has been an outstanding manager—always responsive, patient, and willing to go the extra mile to ensure everything runs smoothly. She keeps the property in excellent condition, from the beautifully maintained landscaping to the common areas and pool, which are cleaned regularly.

Communication has always been clear and timely, whether I had maintenance requests or other questions

I had a fantastic experience with Moss & Company! They manage great properties, but what truly made the difference was Bridget. She’s such a kind and helpful person, going above and beyond to make everything smooth and stress-free. You can really tell she cares and is always ready to assist with any questions or concerns. If you're working with Moss & Company, you're in good hands, and if you meet Bridget, you'll see why people love her so much! Highly recommend!

Moss & Company is by far the worst management company I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. I was a resident of Dickens Gardens from September 2022 to February 2024. When I first moved in, Dickens Gardens was owned by a different management company. Had I known they would be bought out by Moss & Company I would’ve never signed the lease in the first place. My real issue with this company was the property manager of my building, Bridget Light. When my roommate decided she wanted to move out in the middle of our lease, Bridget made me jump through excessive hoops to find a new roommate. Our first potential roommate was denied due to a failed criminal background check, but Bridget refused to provide any further information or proof of this. By the time we found another replacement, I was forced to reapply for the building I already lived in, including having to pay an application fee. This took hours of my time that was ultimately wasted, since they decided to repeatedly deny this roommate as well, as their "finances couldn’t be substantiated". Bridget, at one point, told me continuing to try to apply (so I could stay at the same building I had signed a year lease for!) would be a "big hit on my credit". Hint- it wasn’t. Throughout this process, It became more and more obvious to me that she/ Moss & Company just wanted me out, presumably so they could renovate and re-list the apartment for a much higher price. In the end, I decided it wasn’t worth the stress and since Bridget clearly had no intentions of helping me in this unfortunate situation, my roommate broke the lease and I was able to move out.
After about a month, we still had not received our security deposit back. Once we inquired about it, they sent it back minus $300 that they said was a general cleaning fee, even though I had cleaned the apartment (with no help from my roommate) from top to bottom before leaving, and done a full walkthrough with a team member who had told me that everything looked good. Of course, there is no mention of a cleaning fee in our lease or any contract we ever signed. Once I emailed Bridget to fight it, she replied- "As per the lease agreement, the unit needs to be returned in a condition suitable for the future resident. This involves various tasks such as thorough cleaning, painting, replacing toilet seats, lightbulbs, fixtures, unclogging drains, removing window screens, washing windows, power washing the patio, removing appliances, vents, filters, etc." Since when is it the norm to replace toilet seats or power wash the patio? Their requirements are ridiculous and clearly just another cash grab to steal more money from their residents. It took threatening to go to California Civil Court to receive the full deposit back- with no apology from Bridget, of course. If you are considering Moss & Company, I would strongly encourage you to look at other options. Frankly, it isn’t worth the stress.

Moved into New Hampshire a year ago thinking we’re getting a deal and good apartment, spent Christmas and a total of three month without hot water, then spent a further 3-4 month with a hole in the wall. Then we realized the kitchen counter was neither sealed with protectant or silicone in the cracks when that was finally fixed it has already lifted in less than two months because it wasn’t done properly. Then there was the crazy neighbor that kept flipping our fridge switch off. And now after never hearing the upstairs neighbors, I hear everything deep into the night past midnight and the landlord has done nothing to help. He barely responds, always give attitude. He constantly fails to realize this is our home despite it being only his job. I am a full time student with no family and my boyfriend works three jobs day and night to support us. So definitely don’t live here.
