Absolutely appalling experience with Rose Real Estate. This company is the epitome of negligence and mismanagement. They blatantly ignore phone calls and have no regard for maintaining the building or ensuring tenant safety.

Here’s a rundown of the nightmare:

Expired fire extinguishers: A complete disregard for basic fire safety regulations.
Broken glass and filthy carpets: The hallways are disgusting and quite literally a hazard.
Decrepit laundry rooms: Mold, exposed rusted nails, and non-functional machines—this is a health hazard waiting to happen. The duct-taped hose lines are the real icing on the cake.
Extensive water damage and rotting wood: The interior of the building is falling apart with no sign of repair.
Rampant weed use: Neighbors openly smoke weed, and management turns a blind eye consistently.
No outdoor maintenance in winter: Forget about snow removal or salt—you’re on your own trying not to slip and break a bone.
To top it all off, their customer service is a joke. When they do decide to respond, they’re rude and completely unhelpful. This company clearly doesn’t care about its tenants, and it shows. They should be shut down.

Save yourself the frustration and avoid renting from Rose Real Estate AT ALL COSTS. They should be ashamed of their complete incompetence and lack of accountability. If I could get out of my lease early, I would. It's an absolute joke. Only a matter of time before this place caves in on itself.

My elderly friend lived in the building on Monroe street for 20+ years. She was absolutely terrified when they took over and raised rent prices to almost double a few years back. She constantly called to ask for minor repairs (literally changing the lightbulb in the hallway) and they would never come out or they would say they’re busy. They never installed railing that needs to be in place in the laundry room, she did her laundry in the sink! She sadly passed away recently and guess who’s calling right away to get in to flip a profit They called TWICE within a week of her death. You should be absolutely ASHAMED of yourselves. They couldn’t bother to come out to fix a lightbulb but the moment they can flip an apartment they’re magically available. Her bedroom window was riddled with mold and mildew, we had to throw out everything in the bedroom because of mold spores. God only knows what’s underneath the new carpet or the clip-in flooring. You absolutely will have mold here. We used to bleach the walls every other day when we lived here years ago as her neighbors. You’re absolutely being scammed. The building needs to be condemned. By the way, she passed away six weeks ago and the apartment is up for rent. That’s a very quick cover up for how her apartment was left. You’re absolutely disgusting Rose Realty and you should be ashamed for what you do to people.

I am extremely dissatisfied with the property management's handling of the heating situation in my unit. With the temperatures now plummeting into the negatives, the inadequate heat is not just uncomfortable—it's unacceptable.

Despite my continuous complaints, management is trying to convince me that receiving a $1,000 NIPSCO bill for just two months is normal, all while my unit is barely heating. There’s clearly a malfunction that they have known about for months, yet no action has been taken to rectify it.

When I attempt to address these issues directly, I face hostility. They will trespass you from the office if you seek accountability. Mary Ellen, in particular, has been unprofessional, yelling and mocking me when I raise my concerns. Meanwhile, Mike has not provided any credits for the outrageous NIPSCO bill I’ve received.

Furthermore, it took an astounding nine months to get my bathtub repaired, and that only happened after I had to involve the city.

Alfred (Al) Perez, the OWNER of these properties appears to be just as ineffective as the management team he has hired (Rose Real Estate) He continues to acquire new properties while neglecting the existing ones, indicating a serious lack of proper staffing and support.

I strongly urge potential renters to reconsider before choosing to move here. The combination of inadequate heating and the management’s lack of accountability and respect is truly concerning during such critical times.

RUN from these people. Garbage maintenance service. They have 6 units sharing a single hot water heater in my building - I have NEVER had hot water at 1103 Evans Ave in Valpo when I wanted it. I signed a second year here hoping for the best and it has taken MONTHS to finish repairs after a pipe burst and flooded my unit. Maintenance is impossible to get ahold of, I had to call 911 to get the water turned off when the pipe burst. Mary Ellen in the office is rude as hell, Steve never returns your messages, and they never communicate changes in repair timeliness- you have to do their job for them and hound them to see when they're gonna show up. Wish I had never given these people my money.

TERRIBLE "management" company!!! Calls and maintenance requests constantly ignored for MONTHS. We were leased an apartment that was full of MOLD and had horrible ceiling condensation. The maintenance manager Steve is extremely rude, and they only have a team of 3 maintenance workers. They gaslight you if you ask for even the most basic repairs. If you call the office, they will always make up an excuse of how Mike the owner is not available. Only time they were responsive was during our lease signing and ending. We did get the full security deposit back because we left it spotless. Had to file a report with the City for them to actually fix things. I will NEVER rent from them again and will warn against it every time I get the chance! If you can't manage the many properties you oversee, then you have too many!

They will care less about maintenance when it comes to low cost apartments so be extra careful. Make sure everything works before moving in. Sink, toilet, windows and, of course, appliances. Especially the appliances.

If they don't work properly, they will ignore any ordeal you may have with it. Make sure the living situation is up to date and proper.

They may also do repair that may not fixing the overall problem by placing a bandaid to the issue instead. They love repairing stuff that doesn't require funds to fix. So if a duct tape is available, THEY WILL USE IT. sort of speak.

Rose Real Estate has been great to work with. Very friendly office staff. I've personally used them to buy and sell multiple houses and will continue to in the future.

Wow, what a terrible rental management company! They make you wait months just for simple repairs like screens and door handles. They completely ignore big issues like mold inside the units. They schedule lawn service around every 4-6 weeks. It wouldn’t be a big deal if they would let you do the repairs and take it off your rent, but nope! They won’t fix it, & they don’t want you to do your own repairs and subtract it from the rent amount. They lie and tell you what you want to hear to get you in, then they never fix anything and demand payment.

Also, they’re damn near impossible to get in contact with.

If you’re considering renting from these people, make it your very last resort because you will regret it.

If I could give zero stars, I would.
