During the process of the second purchase in late 2024 and early 2025, the destructive Southern California wildfires struck the neighborhood where Linda owns her own home, but that did not stop her from taking care of us while we worked through our financing options. So it’s a couple years ago and I retire. My wife and I decide to buy a 2nd home in Catalina. We can afford it. Our big fancy bank has us in their Private Client group… we’re all about it, we thought. Wrong. We apply at this bank, puke out piles of documents, answer picayune questions about irrelevant issues and three weeks later the bank loan guy says, “Well, underwriting doesn’t handle retiree apps very well and you’re stuck in underwriting.” Comedy Gold. The bank guy is groveling and apologizing. So what, that doesn’t feed the bulldog. I tell him, “If you know your bank doesn’t handle retirees well why didn’t you tell me. I don’t want an apology, I want service. You failed.”

Stuck with only days before we have to waive a loan contingency someone says, “Call Linda Wilcox. She’s good.” I did, she is, and a few days later we’re approved. At better terms than fancy bank.

Lesson… pros know what they are doing, know where to go to get done, work for you instead of a faceless institution. She earned a fee, she deserved it. No matter how all about it you think you are, if you aren’t a pro you are a fish.
