My experience at Silver Birch of Hammond was very pleasant and inviting. The atmosphere was warm, friendly and welcoming. Kali Turner is fantastic she is very personable. I Love her enthusiasm and friendly helpful and caring personality. The residents seem very fond of her. I think she had the right kind of spirit and concern that’s needed for the residents care, needs, safety and trust. It was a great experience and the refreshments were also a nice and kind added gesture. I would definitely refer and recommend Silver Birch of Hammond.

Silver Birch is a great asset to the community. Kali has helped several of the residents from my senior building who can no longer live on there own and need assistance to find housing where they can get the help they need and feel safe! I definitely recommend Silver Birch Hammond!

The "ED" as the call her Mrs Stewart is very rude, not caring about any of her residents (Yes this lady loves to play Favoritisms a lot with a handful of only the Black Americans. If only that assisted living could have a new and professional and certified enough to do their jobs ED and HR manager the building and care would show.. The food is inedible, hard to chew for majority of the seniors who have dental issues. The silver birch of Hammond has roaches, bed bugs, and a lot of unhealthy and unsafe hazards. I witnessed the manipulativeness,fear tactics and intimidating actions towards not only the physically disabled, but emotionally and mainly mentally ill men&women who are also veterans and handicaps. I pray for those residents I met everyday. Maybe one day silver birch will be run by a More qualified Ed and HR.If the activity director thinks 3 days of bingo and a trip to Walmart are outings or activities for grown men and women she should find more easier work, like walking around the complex bringing stress to the residents, or dancing in the hallway, but can't plan better activities for adults is just sad.. The food the military cooks for 500 people is way hotter and more healthier than the 3 luke warm stirofoam plates they get and a bed, they got for these seniors who deserve WAY more CARE AND COMPASSION. God help them All. How could some building that's only been opened for 7 years is now falling apart has an infestation non proper working elevators and is a hazard if there is a fire because there are smokers in that building of cigarettes who also drink alcohol profusely and could easily start a fire, or maybe some of the residents who are privileged enough and are told they could have air fryers hot plates toaster ovens candles you know all the things that are not in the policy to have. This place needs NEW owners or it won't be long until it's a complete eye sore of Hammond Indiana. These Men and Women's lives are not over yet. Let their older years be peaceful and healthy. Lord hear my prayer 🙏🏼

The reviews are NOT accurate 😢. I periodically visit a friend & have become acquainted with other residence’s through that friend. Per them; the food is horrible and most times served cold. When asking for second serving they are denied cuz supposedly they just don’t have enough and or they have their favorites WHY. I was there once when someone asked for coffee cream to be taken to the room. And their response; we don’t have extra to give out. Word is staff takes must food home. 😢 They are always short staffed, and not very out reaching to residence. Also, there is a very strong scent of marijuana that radiates through residence open windows & once as I was leaving scent in hall way. I know it has been reported and has not been taken care of shame on SilverBirch
My friend in a very tough situation or else he/she would’ve left the facility a long time ago.

My dear friend lives at Silver Birch and has told me many things about this place. I don’t know who’s writing the reviews on this website but I’m guessing it’s staff because none of it fits with what my friend has told me about Silver Birch. The staff are untrained, inconsiderate and have indifferent attitudes toward the needs of the residence. Sometimes they openly verbally abuse residents who cannot defend themselves. Emergency calls for help are responded to inadequately and very slowly. For example; My friend has fallen a couple times in the bathroom and pressed the emergency call button only to hear the phone ringing in response. She pressed it again and her other phone rang in response. She could not get to either phone because she’d fallen. She pressed the button a third time and someone came to the door to help but did not have any keys and could not assist her. So she waited in pain, on the floor . Fortunately she was not severely injured while she waited all that time until staff came with keys and helped her up. Most of the food is canned, Overly processed, starchy and disgusting. My friend became ill from the food so many times that she started cooking in her room instead. Many of the residents (including those with dementia) cook in their room with fryers, hot plates and other appliances. This is against the rules but completely inmonitored. Fortunately there has not been a fire yet because there’s no adequate fire plant. During the emergency fire drill residents were told they could take the elevator downstairs. Many residents have issues with substance abuse and lounge outside smoking crack or drinking liquor. None of the rules are enforced and some residents bully others for money or refuse to share the computer time. I could go on for days about how bad this place is. Hopefully you will not choose Silver Birch for your loved one. At best they will be disappointed by the lack of care they receive. They may slip into depression due to lack of activities and outings. At worst they may be verbally abused or may have a medical emergency and no one will care.

We were struggling for the last few years while at work during the day and leaving my mom alone at home. Silver Birch was recently built and near us in Hammond. It is designed so well from the paint to the light fixtures and most importantly the staff. Together Silver Birch is a wonderful example of what it should be like for Seniors who want to have independence but yet need help with some things. The best part is she has friends and people around her who truly care about how her day is going. The beautiful dining room is a place for her to eat meals and visit with others. Areas to watch TV together and activities like manicures and music have helped her bond. We are so lucky to have a place like Silver Birch, they have helped mom feel like she has a bigger family, we are so grateful for the people who care for and about her every day.
