Core Specialties and Services

At the heart of The Wildland Trekking Company's expertise lies guided wilderness trekking. They design and lead multi-day backpacking trips through diverse terrains, catering to a range of skill levels and physical capabilities. These treks often traverse areas of exceptional beauty and solitude, such as sections of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Recreation Trail, areas bordering the San Francisco Peaks, or routes leading towards the Grand Canyon South Rim. Beyond basic trekking, the company may also offer specialized excursions focusing on specific interests like photography workshops, bird watching, or geology hikes, all conducted with a strong emphasis on environmental education and Leave No Trace principles.

As a dedicated tour agency, their service extends beyond just guiding. They handle comprehensive planning, logistics, and equipment needs. This includes providing detailed pre-trip consultations to discuss expectations, physical preparation, and necessary gear, often offering or even supplying essential camping equipment for clients who don't wish to carry everything themselves. Their commitment to client safety is paramount, ensuring guides are certified in wilderness first aid and CPR, and that all group sizes are manageable for effective supervision and emergency response. Furthermore, they assist in managing the booking process, making the often-daunting task of planning a wilderness adventure significantly easier for their clients.

Best of the Smokies and Asheville Inn-Based Trip. This was my third trip with Wildland Trekking and was absolutely wonderful! The accommodations at Dancing Bear Lodge were incredible. I felt spoiled and was pleasantly surprised with a private hot tub at the lodge. Every meal was great, including the ones prepared by our guide, Kyle. Kyle was magnificent and even carried a charcuterie board all the way up the mountain. The hiking of course was great. The views and waterfalls were incredible, but what made the trip special was the people and the overall experience of getting away for a while. I highly recommend Wildland Trekking as a vacation for nature lovers and hikers.

Hiking and camping Zion and Bryce had been on our list for a long time. When we finally booked the Utah Base Camp tour with Wildland Trekking, we were excited – but also nervous, as we did not really have any experience. We were quickly reassured by Sam, our guide, who provided a clear outline and itinerary, an easy-to-follow gear guide, and tips on preparing for the tour. She thought of everything and it could not have gone better! Six days in Utah and each was breathtaking – but in totally different ways. We hiked to Angels Landing and the views are seared in my memory forever. The walk through the Virgin River Narrows in waders was a real highlight for me. Bryce Canyon stunned us with its quiet majesty – an exhilarating hike with an unreal backdrop. The slot canyons were like nothing we had seen before – seeing the ages of water reflected on the rock. Everything about the trip was amazing. The clear night sky with blankets of stars among the Milky Way. The cool crisp morning air. And while we were closer than ever to nature – we still enjoyed the comforts of running water (showers, toilets), smores at the campfire, and freshly cooked, healthy meals prepared with love and intention. I had expected dehydrated meals and protein bars but we had fresh wraps, soups, frittatas, even cake! We’ll bask in the memories of this trip for years – but we’re already scouting out our next trek with Wildland! Do yourself a favor and request Sam!

I want to thank our guide Jennie Dufour for a great trip. She set a pace that was good for the entire group, allowed time for observation and learning, did a fantastic job with the food (you can tell she prides herself on being a great backcountry cook) and created an inclusive environment. I plan on hiking with her again.
Capital Reef is a geological wonder. Being up close to Brimhall Arch is a total wow experience.

First time using Wilderness Trekking. Have used Backroads and Active Adventures in the past. Loved the smaller group size. We had 4 hikers. Amazing itinerary in Olympic National Park. Kyle was a fantastic guide. Guides are allowed to modify the itinerary for the weather and to maximize the tour for the guests. Will definitely use them again.

We recently did a Hermit Loop 4 night-5 day tour in the Grand Canyon. Our guide was Jessie and she was knowledgeable, safe, very kind, very chill and easy to be with. She was great with our group. This trip exceeded my expectations in every way. Jessie at our initial meet up talked to us about what to pack and not pack based on the weather, she guided us on how to evenly pack the backpack. Every day she ensured we had enough water on hand and had enough electrolytes. I would bring a 1lb light weight chair next time if trained enough (which I was). Every day was beautiful in terms of hiking scenery and the trails; we hiked across plateaus, down side canyons, camped in beautiful campsites, and hiked down to the river twice. Jessie's meals were bang on every single time, and I can't believe how hard she worked for us on those meals after hiking all day. She was always positive and happy to spoil us. We had burritos, pancakes, peanut noodles, cake, coffee, etc. and she catered to dietary requirements. The meals were gourmet. I had the best time, with the most memorable experience that I will always remember. I loved getting up early to hike out of the hermit trail, it was hard but beautiful, and I appreciated Jessie's sensibility and safety. Thank you Jessie and Wildland for a once in a lifetime experience....though I am missing the canyon already so I may be back! 😉

Recently completed Great Smoky Mountains National Park with guide Sophia S.! Included 6 mile kayak, 7-9 mile hike at 4000 ft. elevation, waterfall tours, lake swimming, etc. Sophia was absolutely amazing! I will be requesting her when doing this again. She was kind, understanding, patient, knowledgeable about the plants and environment, set the pace to meet everyone needs so we could all be successful and safe completing the tasks, very physically conditioned and was able to others who were struggling, cooked amazing food and was sanitary, well organized and prepared.

We recently booked a last minute trip to AZ for Christmas and wanted to spend a day hiking in the Grand Canyon. Because we inly had a day, we wanted to maximize our time by booking a guide. Based on their other reviews, we reached out to Wildland Trekking. Luckily they were able to accommodate our request - which I think was fantastic considering that it was booked a week out and for the day before Christmas Eve. Our guide, Stephen, was amazing! We took off on a cold, foggy, wet, rainy/icy day. Throughout our hike, he encouraged us to keep going but made it very clear that we could turn around at any point. He made us feel safe as we trekked through the mud and livened up the mood with stories of the canyon. When the weather began to clear, he was almost more excited than we were! He packed us a super delicious lunch and, throughout the trip, made sure that we were taking as much time as we needed to look at the scenery or catch our breath. I would highly recommend Stephen and Wildland Trekking to anyone visiting the Grand Canyon. We will definitely book through them on future visits and are now discussing doing one of their longer trips through the canyon.
